Mare Australis

Day 1 - Saturday - Punta Arenas
13:00 - 18:00 hrs: Passengers check-in at local dock Arturo Prat in Punta Arenas, O´Higgins 1401.
18:00 - 19:00 hrs: Boarding "Mare Australis" Cruiser. The crew, headed by the Captain, will welcome you aboard for a cocktail with your cruise companions. Immediately after, the ship will depart towards the end of the world. Along the mythical Strait of Magellan, we will sail through the Patagonian Channels and around Tierra del Fuego. The beginning of a great adventure.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Day 2 - Sunday - Bahía Ainsworth- Marinelli Glacier - Tucker Islet
With the first light of dawn, navigation will continue through Almirantazgo Fjord. We will disembark in Ainsworth Bay near Marinelli Glacier, where we will take a walk to see the Beaver dams and the Magellan Forests. We will also see a colony of sea lions close at hand. During the afternoon, we will visit a small colony of Magellan Penguins at Tucker Islet. It is also important to mention that the presence of dolphins is likely. Once back on board, it is possible to observe that on the other side of the island there is a colony of cormorants and after a few minutes of navigation there is a rocky promontory with a large colony of sea lions and seals.

 

Day 3 - Monday - D'Agostini Fjord - Serrano Glacier, D´Agostini Glacier and Condor Glacier.
Dawn finds us by the D'Agostini Fjord where we can appreciate the Serrano Glacier followed by the D'Agostini Glacier. We will disembark in Condor Bay close to the Condor Glacier. Here, we will enjoy a short walk and an excursion by zodiac. After boarding again, the ship will sail through the Strait of Magellan to reach Brecknock Channel.

 

Day 4 - Tuesday - Beagle Channel - Yendegaia - Puerto Williams
After navigating across Desolation Bay and through the O'Brian Channels, we will enter the north-west extension of the Beagle Channel to experience the majestic "Glaciers Avenue": Spain, Romanche, Germany, Italy, France and Holland. Then, we will disembark at Yendegaia Bay, where the first Chilean farm of Tierra del Fuego is located. During this visit we will be able to see the settlement remains of the Yagan Indians. We will visit the site of the old farm and walk to an observation point. During the walk it will be possible to appreciate the great variety of vegetation that is on the Island of Tierra del Fuego. There will also be numerous birds such as "Caiquenes" and occasional sites of Condors. In the afternoon we will stop at Puerto Williams, the southernmost village in the world, were you may take optional tours to the Martin Gusinde museum, the Beavers lagoon or a fly over of the impressive Cape Horn.

  Day 5 - Wednesday - Ushuaia
Departure from Puerto Williams. We will sail slowly to arrive very early to Ushuaia, the most important Argentinean city in Tierra del Fuego. Here,you may enjoy optional tours that will allow you to know the most Southern region in South America, such as the Tierra del Fuego National Park. On this day, those passengers who took the Punta Arenas - Ushuaia sector option will disembark and new passengers embark between 16.00 and 18.00 with destination to Punta Arenas.
  Day 6 - Thursday - Cap Horn - Wulaia Bay
Navigation through the Beagle Channel and Murray Channnel to disembark in the Cabo de Hornos (Cape Horn) National Park. Cape Horn is a natural sea wall of almost 425 meters high that was discovered on January 30, 1616 by a commercial expedition from the Netherlands organized by Isaac Le Maire and under the command of Captain Willem Schouten. Cape Horn owes its name to the Port of Hoorn from which the expedition had originated on June 14, 1615. Later, we disembark in Walaia Bay, where we will be able to visit one of the most important indigenous sites of the region.
  Day 7 - Friday - Pia Glacier - Garibaldi Glacier
We will sail back across the main branch of the Beagle Channel to sighting at Pia Glacier. A short walk to an observation point will give us the opportunity to see more examples of the area's vegetation. The glacier can be seen in all its glory from this observation point as well as the array of icebergs. This Glacier's source is in the middle of the Darwin Range of mountains and reaches the sea at Pia Bay. In the afternoon we will enter Garibaldi Bay where we will be able to enjoy views of the Glacier of the same name and the impressive snow fields of the Darwin Range. In route along the bay the ship makes a short stop to admire the sea lions. We will take the opportunity to disembark in zodiacs at one of the beaches along this protected and wonderful place. There, we will undertake an adventurous trek to appreciate the lush vegetation and the virgin forests that cover the mountain slopes. After this unforgettable experience we will continue navigating through O'Brian and Ballenero Channels, Bahía Desolada, Paso Aguirre and Brecknock Channel.
  Day 8 - Saturday - Magdalena Island - Punta Arenas
Early in the morning we will disembark in Magdalena Island, the home of an enormous penguin colony with over 120.000 of them in different stages of breeding. We will take a walk to San Isidro Lighthouse, which used to guide the explorer sailors on their way across the Magellan Strait. After our visit, we will return to Punta Arenas where we dock at 11.00 AM and start disembarkation formalities. Thus our Adventure comes to its end. Note: Check departure flights out of Punta Arenas as disembarkation will take place at 11:00 a.m.
