Day 1 - Puerto Montt - Coyhaique /Balmaceda - Termas de Puyuhuapi
Your journey begins in Puerto Montt with a 45-minute flight to the Coyhaique/Balmaceda Airport in the Patagonian Region. Travel from the airport along the surprise-files Austral Highway to Puerto Chacabuco. This stretch leads through Coyhaique's wonderful countryside, with its waterfalls, mountains, and dense forests. Upon arriving in Puerto Chacabuco, you will board the PATAGONIA EXPRESS Catamaran, which will take you on a comfortable five hour trip through the Aysen Fjord, the Puyuhuapi Channel and the Seno Ventisquero to your destination: the TERMAS DE PUYUHUAPI, Hotel & Spa.
Today you have time to take complete advantage of all this fantastic Patagonian Tourism Center has to offer. Visit the charming village of Puerto Puyuhuapi with its characteristic architecture, walk from the Hotel and through the rain forest to a nearby salmon farm, or marvel at the "Hanging Glacier" on an additional excursion to the Queulat National Park. Later relax and enjoy a revitalizing sea level thermal bath in open nature, surrounded by giant ferns and pristine vegetation, perhaps under a gentle southern rain, or even at night beneath an extraordinary star-filled sky. Have a drink in the cozy bar, dine in the restaurant with typical Chilean gastronomy, play pool or watch a video; all are at your disposal throughout the entire day. You should also try our new SPA, which offers several indoor pools, Jacuzzi, fitness and game rooms and a fully equipped Thalassotherapy Centre (massage, hydro-massage, facial beauty treatments, and Thalaterm, etc.).
7:30a.m. Your are part of the expedition that sets sailed directly from the Hotel on the PATAGONIA EXPRESS catamaran bound for the San Rafael Lagoon. Southern channels offer excitement, new sights, and incredible beauty - in comfort and with excellent service. The route carries you through the Ventisquero Cove, along the Puyuhuapi, Moraleda and Costa Channels into the Tres Cruces Gulf and the Elefantes Estuary. We finally enter the San Rafael Lagoon about 2:00p.m. At last, we se it: San Rafael glacier. Enormous mountains of 20.000 year old ice rise up and sparkle like turquoise-colored jewels. You will approach the bizarre ice sculptures in rubber rafts, and you can drink whiskey chilled with a piece of ancient ice. Later you begin the return trip and arrive in Puerto Chacabuco about 10:00 p.m. Overnight in Chacabuco.
After breakfast, enjoy the 2.5 hour bus trip that takes you along the banks of the beautiful Simpson River, through Coyhaique, the capital of the Aysen Region, and on to the Balmaceda Airport for your return to Puerto Montt or Santiago, It only remains to wish you a safe trip home and to thank you for your confidence and friendship. Today you will visit Puerto Puyuhuapi. This charming village, with it's characteristic architecture, is certainly worth the trip. For those who wish to see more of the region's sights, try and additional excursion to the Queulat National Park,, where you can marvel at the impressive "Hanging Glacier". Your afternoon is free, and you may choose to rent a motor boat, row boat, canoe or kayak at our boat rental center. Don't forget to take a dip in one of the thermal pools or stop by the SPA and Thalassotherapy Center for a special treatment.
