| Descending for the terraqueous globe toward the South Pole and following the Andean Mountains, You could find the spine of the South American continent; Chile, which is rich in islands, fiords, mountains, volcanoes, rivers and pristine native forests. Here begins the SOUTHERN HIGHWAY , we invite you to discover one of the last virgin areas of the world, an exotic, and distant place. There Is not another place in the world like this: 100 thousand square miles to discover, to walk and to live, enjoying a friendly and invigorating climate. Varied wild fauna is appreciated, among the most important species you have: Pudú, Mountain Cat, Puma, Zorro Culpeo, Huillín, Quique and oipo. Among the birds, the Huala, Pato Quetro, Pato Correntino, Martin fisherman, Magallanic Woodpecker , Thorn-tailed Rayadito, Chucao Tapaculo etc... Among the fish you could find the Chilean Trout and brown trout. You could find numerous rivers, the most important being, the Yelcho, Hueque, Reñihué, Rayas, Black, Yellow, Michimahuida, The Cold and other minor ones. Among the lakes the Yelcho, Blanco, and the Reñihué stand out, all them of great beauty and with abundant salmon and trout. Another attractive feature are the snowdrifts. Standing out the small Yelcho, Hill the Throne in Cárdenas Port and the Volcano Michimahuida. An authentic paradise; a vast territory of clean air where the beauty cannot be described with words. You will live among thermal baths, parks, valleys, rivers and glaciers; next to the people that inhabit these lands, their culture and their customs. Day 1 - Puerto Varas Arrival to the Tepual airport in Puerto Montt. Transfer to Puerto Varas, a city located at the foot of the volcano Osorno beside the Lake Llanquihue, 1.000 km south of the capital of Chile. Lodging in Hotel Cabañas del Lago. Dinner in the restaurant El Mercado, famous for its varied regional food. |

2 - Angelmó-Chaitén Breakfast. Visits to Angelmó, a source of painters and poets´ inspiration. In the sector exists a handmade market where you could find sweters, gloves and other handmade made articles. Transfer to the airport The Tepual, where we will take the airplane with the destination of Chaitén (30 min.) Here begins the Southern highway, traveling north of the patagonia. The name Chaitén derives of the Huilliche (InDAYn) word "Chain-Chaitun" that means "Colar en Chaivas" (Basket). With an average of 4.000 m.m. annual of rains, we meet with a valley surrounded with mountains covered with abundant species of native trees. Located between the sea and the Andean mountain range, the area is characterized by fresh and clean air, great quantity of rivers, waterfalls, virgin forests, volcanoes and glaciers. Among the trees you could find species like Coigües, Mañios, and Cypress. It is the ideal place for lovers of the nature; activities like trekking, canoeing, sailing and horseback riding can be done in this place. A narrow and twisty road ascends among the forest to a valley where the thermal baths El Amarillo are located. They have individual huts, thermal pools outdoors, and camping sites. In days of rain, to take a bath in this water is an unique experience. Transfer to The Coihues Hostel. In the afternoon we go toward the Park Pumalin, a project developed by the North American Douglas Thompkins with the purpose of protecting the rainy temperate forest. These properties have been declared Sanctuaries of the Nature, a special appointment of the state of Chile that provides environmental additional protection where industrial activities are not allowed. A walk of 20 minutes on the path of The Larches; this circuit crosses the river, over a suspension bridge. An easy walk for all ages through a ancient alerce forest with detailed signs that provide biological and historical information. Please don't touch the trees. Afterward we returned to Chaitén. Dinner in the restaurant canasto de Agua. Overnigh in Los Coihues. |

3 - Chaiten-National Park Queulat Breakfast. Departure from Chaitén toward El Pangue. In an environment of forests, we will go by lake Yelcho and glacier Yelcho, where we will do a walk of 2 hours to a viewpoint of the glacier, Santa Lucía and La Junta. Dinner and lodging in El Pangue; ecological tourist complex located in the limit of the National Park Queulat. |

4 - National Park Queulat - Coyhaique Breakfast. Departure from El Pangue, where we will be able do a short walk to visit the glacier Queulat. By travelling up the hill Queulat, going by the Three Bridges, crossing the River Cisnes and several towns, we go toward Coyhaique, the capital of the 11ª region. Coyhaique was founded in the year 1929, with approximately 38.000 inhabitants and a great potential in natural resources. There are a number of lakes and rivers that highlight the area. We have dinner and lodging in the Hostería Coyhaique. |

5 - Coyhaique - Chile Chico Breakfast. Deperture from Coyhaique toward Puerto Ibañez. We cross the Lake General Carrera in a barge toward Chile Chico. Dinner and lodging in Chile Chico in the Hostel of the Patagonia. This is a small town of 3.500 inhabitants who with excellent weather tend orchards that bear fruit. It is beautifully urbanized and hospitible. The first inhabitants came from Argentina in 1931. |

6 - Chile Chico - Rio Baker Breakfast. Departure from Chile Chico toward The River Baker (4 hours aprox.). This river has turquoise water and is a large river in Chile. Optional: Rafting in the river Baker, US$40 p/p. Dinner and lodging in the Pasarela Lodge. |

7 - Ventisquero Lago Bertrand Breakfast. Sailing toward the iceburg of the lake Bertrand, we have wonderful views to the Andean mountain and to the glacier, we will have a cocktail and then return. Dinner and lodging in Pasarela Lodge. |

8 - River Baker - Coyhaique Breakfast. Departure from The Pasarela Lodge toward Coyhaique. We go toward the marble chapels in the Lake General Carrera. Here we observe the chapels and we will be able to share a roasted Chilean Asado and enjoy the beach. Lodging in the hostel Coyhaique. |

9 - Coyhaique - The Pangue Breakfast. Departure from Coyhaique in a road that crosses the Andean mountain toward Puyuhuapi, a picturesque town with German architectural influence. Also here you could find the famous handmade carpet of Puyuhuapi. Dinner and lodging in the Pangue. |

10 - The Pangue - Futaleufú Breakfast. Departure from El Pangue toward Futaleufú. Dinner and lodging in Hostel Río Grande. Futaleufú is an indigenous name and it means "Big River". Hardened conquering colonists, of the untamable forest who opened roads and paths in the Andes, discovered the turquoise color of the rivers crowned with veils of white waters. The Big River of Futaleufú is one of the most important natural factors in the county. It is a river with a great flow of water that is born of a score of lakes in the Argentinian Patagonia. Palena travel the whole thing and arrive to the sea in front of Chiloé, after changing name: Yelcho. Encased in a large part of their descent, it is a torrent that wears away rocks and isculpts mountains. Causing delight of daring sportsmen who challenge their bravery in the waters. Next to the river, Futaleufú, beautiful town of small and charmy houses, surrounded by water and of hills that are almost always white. A cheerful person´s town, living rainy afternoons, with scent of coigües and Ñires. You could feel the spirit of colonists, a simple and kind people who lived isolated of the rest of Chile for a long time. Futaleufú has less than 1.000 inhabitants and is only 60 years old. Most of people are the second or third generation of pioneers that arrived to this region. |
